INSTRUCTOR PROFILE:

Originally from just north of Boston, Massachusetts, I grew up with 5 brothers, all of us pursuing math related careers. Upon graduating from Boston State College (UMass) I taught a few years in Australia, Ghana, and Ireland. I returned to the Boston area with my Irish husband and raised our family in Derry, New Hampshire. I taught in a K- 8 school for 26 years and also taught the Adult Education GED program and a math course at the University of New Hampshire. My husband and I, along with my dog, Clover, moved to Phoenix in 2017. There I taught middle school math, along with STEAM classes, in the public school system and have since begun working for Peak Academics to focus on individualized math instruction and tutoring.

As an active STEAM teaching enthusiast, I have supplemented my students’ learning with participation in math contests, stock market competitions, organizing field trips and outdoor education camps, and coordinated the SeaPerch program where my students constructed underwater remote-controlled vehicles to enter in a national competition. Adding to my life-long learning adventures, I have been fortunate to have been selected to participate in the Teacher At Sea program where I was aboard a N.O.A.A. (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) research vessel for two weeks collecting data on the fish population along the North East coast up into Canadian waters. I also participated in The Maury Project, an oceanography-based graduate-level teacher enhancement program, and Space Camp for Educators in Huntsville, Alabama.

I have a real passion for teaching math, helping my students expand their knowledge, improve their problem solving skills, prepare for a successful future, and develop an appreciation of the varied field of mathematics.

In my spare time I enjoy visiting with my family. Our grown children live in San Diego and we drive there quite often. I love traveling, reading, bicycle riding, ice skating, creating stained glass projects and volunteering at an equine therapy barn.

For Peak Academics I am happy to work with students in grades 3-9 to support them with their math course and remedial skill building. I also offer general homework assistance across subjects, as well as practice with their executive functioning skills.
