I am originally from the Pittsburgh area. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 1993. I acted as a tutor while in school and continued tutoring well after graduating. This led me to pursue my goal of teaching at a university, earning an MS degree in Mathematics from Youngstown State University in 2000.
I have been teaching college mathematics classes ranging from Basic Algebra to Calculus III (including Statistics) since 1995 have been tutoring for over 25 years. My favorite courses to teach are Calculus and Probability.
I tend to ask my students many questions to find out what concepts they have a solid grasp on and what their trouble areas are. From there I strategize and make an individualized plan to support them. I also try to use humor to connect with students. I like to tell math jokes to break the ice.
Two interesting facts about myself are that I am a vegan and I have way too many cars. I am a vegan because I care deeply for animals and the environment. I also enjoy restoring cars from the 80’s and 90’s.
I offer tutoring services in high school mathematics and specialize in Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, and Statistics. I promote the conceptual understanding of mathematics in lieu of shortcuts.
“Thanks to Dave, Hannah's confidence in the material grew as well as her grade! If she ever needs help in math again, Dave will be the first person we ask for.”
