I grew up in the Midwest, and I knew I wanted to work with kids. After completing my Bachelors in Science in Minnesota, I took a teaching position in Michigan teaching grades 5-8. While in Michigan I completed my Masters in the Art of Teaching. I later took a position in Illinois, where I also obtained my Administrator’s license. In the early 2000’s I had the opportunity to transition to Arizona to start a K-8 school. It was a great challenge to create an experiential learning environment for students. As my own children started to grow up, I decided to go back into the classroom and teach again so I could spend more time with my family. Recently, I acquired a middle school certificate for Math and Science.
I have been teaching for over 25 years in public and private schools and have served as an administrator in private schools for over 20 years. I have worked with children from kindergarten through eighth grade in a variety of disciplines, but currently work with students in a public school setting in the areas of math and science.
My main goal is to ensure that every student is provided the highest quality of education possible in a safe and supportive learning environment. Working together as a team with teachers and parents, I am committed to helping each student achieve their very best. Every student is valued and worthy of our best effort.
In order to accomplish this goal, I have developed a 4 C’s to Success philosophy: Content, Character, Choices and Citizenship. I sincerely believe that by adhering to the basic ideas embedded in these four concepts, students can become well-rounded individuals and ready for the next phase in their life. When we, as adults and role models, also adhere to these concepts, students will better see the value of them.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, running, going to movies and spending time with my family. I am married to a fellow teacher, Ann, and together we have 4 children, ranging from grades 7 through college. I also like to travel and would love to travel to different parts of the world.
I am pleased to offer tutoring support in all elementary academic areas, middle school math and science, and executive functioning skills.
